How We Rank Septic Companies
Transparency is one of our core values. Here is exactly how we list, rank, and evaluate septic companies on SepticCompare.
How Companies Are Listed
Every company on SepticCompare is sourced from publicly available Google Maps business data. We do not accept payment for listing placement, and companies cannot pay to be included or excluded from our directory. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive, unbiased view of septic service providers in each market.
Companies are automatically included if they meet our basic criteria: they are listed as a septic service provider on Google Maps, have a verifiable business address in one of our covered states, and provide septic-related services.
Our Ranking Methodology
Companies are sorted by the following factors, which are all derived from publicly available data:
Google Rating
The company's average Google review rating (1-5 stars) is the primary sorting factor. Higher-rated companies appear first.
Review Count
Companies with more reviews provide more reliable ratings. Our “Top Rated” sections require a minimum of 5 reviews.
Pricing Transparency
Companies that publish pricing on their websites are highlighted. We believe transparent pricing helps homeowners make informed decisions.
Service Breadth
We display the full range of services each company offers, from pumping and inspection to installation and emergency service.
Data Collection Process
Our data collection process combines automated and manual methods to ensure accuracy:
- Google Maps data: Company name, address, phone number, website, ratings, review count, and hours of operation are sourced from Google Maps business listings.
- Website data extraction: Pricing, services offered, system types handled, service areas, and specializations are extracted from each company's website when available.
- Pricing confidence scoring: Each company's pricing data is assigned a confidence level (low, medium, high) based on how clearly the pricing is published on their website.
- Regular updates: Data is refreshed periodically to reflect changes in pricing, ratings, and business information.
Editorial Standards
We maintain strict editorial standards:
- No paid placements: Companies cannot pay for higher rankings or preferred placement in our directory.
- Publicly verifiable data: All information displayed can be verified through Google Maps or the company's own website.
- Consistent methodology: Every company is evaluated using the same criteria regardless of size, location, or relationship with SepticCompare.
- Accuracy corrections: Business owners can claim their listing to request corrections to their business information.
Our Business Model
We believe in full transparency about how SepticCompare operates:
- Free for homeowners: Browsing our directory, comparing companies, and accessing pricing data is completely free for homeowners.
- Lead generation: When homeowners request quotes through our platform, we connect them with relevant septic companies. This is how we generate revenue.
- No impact on rankings: Our revenue model does not influence how companies are ranked or displayed. Rankings are based solely on publicly available data.
